Harper wins ADRL Hardees Georgia Drags at Valdosta.
(5-14-2008) Billy Harper came into the ADRL Hardees Georgia Drags in Valdosta determined to show that his run of 3.92 at the Houston event was not a fluke. He proved that and more, firing off a 3.94 to qualify in the number 1 spot . Harper went on to run consistently in the 3’s and cause some controversy with a blanket issue. “ The blanket had dropped during one qualifying run, and that run was disqualified as it should have been” said Dennis Radford tuner of the Billy Harper Viper. “This car runs consistent, and it is fast what more could we ask for.”

Harper proved his car to be the fastest Nitrous car when setting the National record of 3.917. In the first round of eliminations Harper took on John Deflorian, and showed the car could have a weakness when it shook off the line but still recorded a 4.08 to the 5.35 that Deflorian ran. In the second round Harper had to run teammate and tuner Dennis Radford. Harper cut Radford no slack running a 3.917 with Radford having tire shake and running 4.45. In the semi final round the controversy continued, but ADRL officials tried to right a wrong by letting Billy Harper take his rightful spot in the semi final against Randy Weatherford. Harper again proved to be the faster car, running a 3.947 and setting the national record, by backing up his earlier run.

The final round found the Kentucky businessman lined up against Dan Parker. Parker put up a valiant effort running a 3.99 but Harper was slightly better with his 3.93. “We ran consistently all weekend, and proved we are the fastest Nitrous car on the track today.” said Radford. I am as happy having Billy win as I would be to win myself, I am proud of our crew this weekend.” Billy Harper was just as proud “ I have been running Pro Mod for 17 years and to be able to set the national record and win this event, is a dream come true, but I could not have done it without Dennis Radford.”
